I can’t believe how long it has taken me to review this lovely product. As you all know it’s no secret that I am a huge fan of the Tom Ford Beauty line. Most of the products have “wowed” and impressed me so it’s no surprise I have another product to add to the long “I cant live without” list.
The latest addition to the list is “Tom Ford Illuminating Protective primer SPF 12.” It’s a primer that protects, nourishes and creates a gorgeous and flawless canvas. These days, products are becoming so much more versatile and sophisticated, which saves us ladies time and money (well sometimes but you know what I mean.) This is how Tom Ford Beauty describes their primer:
The first step to flawless makeup application. This revolutionary hybrid product seamlessly blends the worlds of skincare and makeup by combining the Tom Ford Infusing Complex with new skin re-texturing ingredients. It increases cellular vitality, helps protect the skin against free radicals and contours the features while enhancing texture, toning and visibly brightening the skin. A luminous and flawless canvas is created for comfortable and long-lasting Color. Apply a small amount to face after concentrate and moisturizer and before foundation. Dermatologist tested.
Do I think it does everything above and more? Put it this way, I haven’t seen it repair or hydrate my skin (only temporarily), but it does a great job making sure my foundation or mineral powder doesn’t budge or dry out unevenly. I can also appreciate how it doesn’t look cakey or overly oily. The finish on this is luminescence and makes your makeup look just that much better. I also appreciate that the SPF doesn’t take all day to dry while leaving a thin white film, which is a huge bonus for me.
I initially thought it looked too white in the bottle and would be challenging to blend into my olive skin and perhaps make me look “washed out” but instead, it had a “highlighter” finish that left a glow. What more can you ask for from a primer? To apply, Keke, the lovely makeup artist at the Tom Ford counter at Bergdorf Goodman, recommended applying this with the Tom Ford foundation brush. It sounded a bit like a hassle and perhaps a waste of time initially but I quickly changed my mind once I watched her apply it on my sister. It looked flawless and prepped the skin for foundation or a touch of powder if your skin doesn’t need much coverage. I am applying it with my “shade and illuminate brush” for now since I don’t currently own the foundation brush and it works just fine…especially for highlighting.
Verdict? I would recommend you get a sample and see how it works on your skin alone or under foundation. I sometimes use it on my brow bone and above my cheeks after I finish my makeup or during the day to brighten and perk my skin. Convinced yet? How could you not be…Mr. Ford is all about revolutionizing anything he puts his hands on and this is just another example of how brilliant he is.
Tom Ford Beauty products can be purchased at Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue. The primer retails for $70.
