Tom Ford Beauty will soon release the Limited Edition Summer 2014 Collection, packaged in the same “Retro-Chic Ivory and Gold” kit that houses their infamous bronzer, and comes with three shadows and two cheek colors. They are also re-releasing “Firelust” liquid highlighter and two new lip shines, a silvery/white and a gold.
The palette has arrived at limited stores but not yet being sold, only pre-orders to reserve one is allowed. I decided to take a quick trip to my second home, Bergdorf Goodman, in between packing for my spring vacation and was lucky enough to have Winnie whip one out for me to swatch on my hand. These iphone images are not top rated but they are very accurate in showing the colors and giving you an idea if you feel this is the palette for you.
The three shadows include a shimmery silver taupe, a medium gray taupe and a very matte and intense cobalt blue. The cheek colors are a frosty gold and a peachy/coral. To be honest, I really didn’t get to test them out as I would have liked to but got a general sense of what they look like and how they feel. The two lighter shadows totally had me channeling “She Wolf” trio shadow (Review HERE) from the Fall 2013 collection, minus the darker gray/brown color which is replaced with the cobalt blue. I am not saying that this is the case but that was my first impression and one I will stick to for now. The two cheek colors are not ( as far as I know) repeats of their already existing blushes. I am assuming the gold one is used as a highlighter on top of the cheekbones and the other as a cheek color. The Firelust illuminator is a re- release (review HERE) and a gorgeous gold/peach color and only one of the two lipsticks was available for me to swatch which was “Moonlight,” a silver white shimmery lipstick which I assume is used over other lipsticks.
I have not tried these on nor have I seen it on anyone but to be honest, I reserved a kit for myself and now having second thoughts. I just feel the “She Wolf” repeat or very close to it, makes me hesitate as well as the two cheek colors that I feel won’t be used much. I tend to lean towards more “rosy” tones to counteract my yellow undertones and this combo isn’t calling my name. The lipstick baffles me, it looks very “non luxurious” and can’t justify spending that much for something that hasn’t already been done, then again it is your call but I will skip on this one as well.
Overall, I am afraid I won’t be purchasing this kit but feel many women and hard core Tom Ford fans will be thrilled to own it and enjoy using it. As a blogger who buys a lot and has a vanity full of makeup and limited edition items, I will find this easier then most to skip and will wait for his Fall 2014 collection. The kit retails for $95 and can be purchased at Bergdorf Goodman 212-872-2813 and ask for Winnie or with Keke at the John Barrett Salon at 212-872-2700. I would love to know if you will be buying it and your thoughts?
