Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer

Trying to find the right shade of makeup to suit individuals is challenging enough, add in finding the right foundation and concealer in texture and color is the ultimate challenge. Finding the right concealer is tough because it can tackle one problem but neglect another. For example, it can have the right consistency but not enough coverage or the right shade but too thick and hard to blend or very easy to blend but hard to find the right shade…get my point?

Nars feels they have created the “perfect” concealer called “Radiant Creamy Concealer,” that is multidimensional and has created such a buzz with makeup artists, bloggers and retailers. Nars describes this concealer with the three B’s . Buildable, Blend-able and Brilliant.

What sets this product apart from other concealers on the market? Let us first take a look at how it is described on the Nars website:

Coveted by artists for its luxurious texture and luminous finish, new Radiant Creamy Concealer evens skin with lightweight, medium-to-high, buildable coverage. Enriched with hydrating, multi-action skincare benefits and light-diffusing technology, it creates a softer, smoother complexion while instantly obscuring imperfections and diminishing fine lines and signs of fatigue.

Test results:
– 98% showed improvement in skin’s hydration that lasted up to 12 hours.
– 95% felt the surface of their skin was smoothed.

Crease-proof and long-wearing.
Paraben-, alcohol- and fragrance-free.

After reading the rave reviews, I had to walk over to Sephora and see what all the fuss was about. My first impression was there were extensive choices of shades to suit most skin tones. In the past, we as consumers have been trained to choose between light, medium and dark or by numbers, so it was refreshing to see the variety and choices. As I slowly worked my way from the lightest to the darkest, I noticed the shades were not necessarily in the order of light to dark, so it was important I swatched them to find the right shade. I decided with “medium 1 custard,” a light/medium shade with yellow undertones. The one before it was “honey” that has peach undertones but decided it wasn’t dark enough for me. It was refreshing to have such a realistic range to choose from and I already had a positive feeling about trying it.

I cleansed and moisturized my face and under eye area, prepping for my new Nars concealer. I waited two minutes for eye cream to sink in and ready for concealer, did not want it slipping or moving around. I added three dots on each side and patted it back and forth until it absorbed and disappeared.

What was my reaction? Here are the key points I noticed after wearing a full day:

* The yellow tone canceled out any red veins that were visible
* The coverage was impressive and not cakey
* It dried slightly faster then my normal concealers so had to blend quickly
* Highly pigmented so three dots was plenty..anymore and I suspect it could look very heavy and made up
* Did not move or budge all day

I am comparing this concealer to my holy grail “Cle de peau” and By Terry “Veloutee.” When I swatched all three on my wrist, the Cle de peau looked quite pink compared to Nars, and it was very surprising to me. Compared to By Terry Veloutee , Nars was more pigmented but didn’t move as smoothly as the By Terry did. All three were quite different but Nars and Cle de peau were ironically similar, however, Nars had better shades to choose from,  great pigment and costs a lot less.

Verdict: Nars concealer is very impressive and definitely worth trying if you are looking for a reasonably priced concealer with good color range and excellent pigment.
Cle de peau has been my holy grail for the last decade so it is a big deal that I have expanded my horizons and allowed a new concealer to enter my life. I suspect as the weather warms up, this concealer will be so useful and indispensable. Next time you are near a Nars counter, give this a trial run and see what you think. I predict you will be just as impressed as all of us that have tried it. I think it will be one of those “staple” items in makeup kits and a true star, enough said!
