Winter is right around the corner which means it’s time to attend to the needs of our skin, among many other things. This is when I take out my deep conditioner for my dry hair, cuticle oil for my dull cuticles, oil for my dehydrated skin and a good exfoliater to rid of old skin cells.
When I was at Bergdorfs last month, I passed by the Kate Sommerville counter, and was given a few samples, one being Kate’s best seller “Exfoliakate.” Who is Kate Sommerville? She’s a well respected creator and director of a medi skin clinic in LA. She partnered with top dermatologists and surgeons over 15 years ago to create it. She “pioneered the integration of medicine and skincare paving for the field of paramedical aesthetics and laid the foundation for medi spa industry.”
Now I have always enjoyed experimenting with different skin peels and exfoliaters but many of them resulted in either skin drying out or breaking out. Some have exfoliating beads that are too rough or coarse and leave the skin vulnerable and sensitive. But then I found Exfoliakate, a gentle but effective exfoliator, that has just the right amount of salycic acid without stripping your skin of its natural oils yet sloughing off dead skin cells, leaving your skin soft and with a glow. Does it sound to good to be true? Not really, it all has to do with seeing what your skin takes to without over reacting or rebelling I tend to have slightly sensitive skin and need to be very careful what I use and this product really impressed me. This is how the company describes this product:
Is it okay to show off your sensitive side? It is when you uncover a vibrant, glowing complexion. ExfoliKate® Gentle is a purifying treatment that helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles right away, while calming and soothing skin. In fact, in a clinical test, participants experienced dramatic results after just one treatment. It’s so effective that it won Allure magazine’s coveted “Best in Beauty” award!
- Microbeads and Fruit Enzymes delicately scrub to safely lift dead surface cells.
- Vitamin A, in its purest form, is intended to fade the appearance of discoloration, with regular use.
- Natural Extracts – including Lemon, Orange, Sage, and Sweet Almond – are specially formulated to improve elasticity.
- Vitamin E and Aloe Vera are designed to act together to smooth skin.
- Mix ExfoliKate® Gentle with any Kate Somerville cleanser to boost cell turnover and save time exfoliating. This combination can be used every day for those who don’t have a facial scrubbing brush.
The company suggest you use this product twice a week to avoid aggravating the skin. I have used it three times a week and had no problem, but it is always best to follow companies guidelines and suggestions. What I did discover is that they have two formulas, one for acne prone skin (which is stronger) and a gentle formula for sensitive skin. I sampled the stronger formula in the shower and really liked how my skin felt afterwards. It does tingle for a few seconds but instructions say to apply on damp skin and apply in circular motions for one minute then rinse off. My skin felt soft, smooth and exfoliated. I was sold after the first try and used up my sample carefully till I finally purchased my own few days later.
I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a good exfoliator that doesn’t dry out or scratch the skin. The fact that she has two formulas of different strengths makes it more accommodating and realistic for most everyone out there. This product has quickly become part of my skin care routine and I hope it works for you to!
