Giorgio Armani has just launched Luminous Silk Compact ($62), a dual-use, radiant powder that promises to leave your skin glowing and flawless. The name might sound familiar as this is the sequence to the famous Luminous Silk Liquid Foundation but in a powder form. I was so excited to get my hands on this since the liquid foundation was my holy grail since launching over a decade ago. I had high expectations of this new powder so I was being a tough critic while testing it out. Before discussing my thoughts on this, I will list out the details and what the company claims it does:
*It is a complexion-perfecting formula with micro-silk technology that offers a luminous matte finish, long-lasting wear and seamless buildable coverage.
*The dual-use applicator gives a versatile makeup result; the beige side sets and perfects your foundation while the black side offers a lightweight foundation finish.
The dual applicator in the bottom part of the compact has multiple uses. Here are three ways to use it:
1) The beige side can be used for setting the powder after using a liquid foundation. They suggest to press the applicator gently into the compact and dab on face, forehead, chin and cheekbones to help extend the wear of your foundation.
2) To touch-up and perfect foundation during the day, use the beige side to set larger areas for a natural finish and the black side for fuller coverage.
3) To use as a lightweight foundation, firmly press the black side of the applicator into the powder after priming your skin. Using gentle, rolling motions, apply all-over face and repeat as necessary to achieve desired coverage.
All three sound helpful but #4 will be how I have been using it. I like to first apply my Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation (shade #7) all over my face. I then get a medium sized brush (Tom Ford Foundation Brush is one I like) and apply in small sections of my face by pressing and blending. I concentrate on the t-zone where I need most coverage. The texture is silky and has generous pigment to work with. It left a matte finish without making my dry skin look dull and dehydrated (a problem I struggle with when using powders.) How did my skin look and how long did it last? I looked flawless, had medium coverage and it lasted all day. It is also easily buildable without looking cakey or powdery. The big question is, do the shades of these powders match the shades of the liquid form? Mine definitely did but I have been reading on the internet that other people say the powder shades run darker then the liquid which I can’t argue with. I bought this at Barneys NY with no tester unit or testers available so it is hard to answer that question. Definitely make sure you call and ask how the shade numbers compare to the liquid and/or read reviews before ordering it.
Verdict? I can never say no to a good powder foundation and Armani has definitely nailed it with this new powder compact. With the sun rays going stronger and the temperature rising daily, this powder is a perfect choice.
